The Winery by Laneberg Wines opened in 2017 and is located on Team Valley in Gateshead. They are a regular on the event scene now, attending Low Fell Market at Saltwell Park on the 1st Saturday of each month and more recently I had the pleasure of tasting their wines at the Sundown Social in the same park last week.
The Winery is run by Elise Lane, with help from her husband (Nick) and other family members of Dad (Ray), Mam (Ruth), sister Laura and brother-in-law Ash.
There were small samples of their most popular wines available to try before you buy including their award winning Bacchus 2018 which was their first vintage. I tried this and it was lovely, I love Sauvignon Blanc and it’s very similar and it won the IWSC Bronze Medal for 2019. Impressive!
They also ran a wine tasting event in their tent at the Sundown Social which was £5 in advance or £6 on the night, for up to 10 people at a time. You had the chance to sample 4 of their fantastic 2018 English wines and the cost of this could be deducted from a purchase afterwards. Great idea, a chance to taste a few of their wines with a couple of friends, before you make a purchase. Plus it’s a cool little addition to the Sundown Social event and you can sit in their gazebo at a table, adorned with pretty lights as the sun goes down, and learn all about their wines while spending time with friends and family. Even if you have the kids with you, they can run around the cute gazebo while you sample some local wines.
The whole Sundown Social event at Saltwell Park was a great success. Split into two options to attend, we plumped for the evening one which had an older vibe. Plenty of food trucks including Acropolis Street Food and Hatch76, plus live music, comedy and the Tipsy Trailer – a personal favourite. A slightly overcast and drizzly day brightened up and as evening fell, the lights around the bandstand added to the festival feel and a few showers couldn’t dampen our spirits – plus we all had wellies on! Make sure you check out the next one later this month.
I haven’t yet been but I like the sound of what they are doing!
Going to run monthly I believe 🙂
